In 2017, after attending a presentation on the Human Cell Atlas at the University of Pennsylvania, scientist Deanne Taylor embarked on an effort to map pediatric cells and gene expression. The Human Cell Atlas initiative initially aimed to catalog every cell type in the human body, but significant concerns arose when it became clear that developmental data for early childhood was not adequately represented.

According to MIT Technology Review, Taylor's work focuses on examining biological variations and cellular distribution across developmental stages.
