The crypto-focused venture capital firm Paradigm has officially raised $1.2 billion for its third venture fund. According to an announcement by co-founder Matt Huang on July 8, 2026, this new capital will be used to invest in "technical frontier" startups, marking a significant expansion beyond the firm's traditional blockchain roots.

Bối cảnh & Nguyên nhân

Paradigm's decision to expand its portfolio comes at a time when the global artificial intelligence (AI) market is booming, while the crypto market has faced continuous fluctuations and regulatory challenges. Founded in 2018 by Matt Huang (a former partner at Sequoia) and Fred Ehrsam (co-founder of Coinbase), Paradigm has historically focused heavily on the Web3 ecosystem. According to SEC filings, the final $1.2 billion fund size is slightly less than the $1.5 billion target reported by the Wall Street Journal in February.

Phân tích kỹ thuật & Công nghệ

Paradigm emphasized that they are not abandoning the cryptocurrency space entirely but will instead integrate overlapping technologies. The firm plans to continue researching and building infrastructure tools like Foundry and Reth, alongside AI agent tools like Centaur. Notably, Paradigm is also collaborating with OpenAI on a security-focused project called EVMbench to optimize Ethereum Virtual Machine safety using machine learning models.

Ý kiến chuyên gia & Nhận định

Alana Palmedo, managing partner at Paradigm, shared in an interview with Bloomberg that there is so much happening in the tech landscape outside of crypto that it is "pretty hard to ignore." Analysts suggest that a major crypto VC shifting capital toward AI and robotics indicates that the integration of blockchain and artificial intelligence is becoming an inevitable path for venture capital firms.

Tác động & Tương lai

In fact, Paradigm's new fund has already backed several non-crypto startups, including drone delivery pioneer Zipline and space technology startup True Anomaly. This strategic pivot promises to bring abundant capital to next-generation AI and robotics companies. For the broader tech community, Paradigm's entry will likely accelerate the commercialization of autonomous systems and enhance security within global decentralized networks.
